What is a Hospitalist?
A physician whose primary focus is the medical care of hospitalized patients. They work with your physician and other specialists to monitor and coordinate all aspects of your treatment while you are in the hospital. Since the Hospitalist is on-site they can immediately respond to your needs.
Why am I being cared for by a Hospitalist instead of my doctor?
Your physician has requested that your inpatient care be coordinated by a specialist in hospital medicine.
Will my physician and the Hospitalist work together?
Yes, SSMC’s full-time Hospitalist will consult with your physician about your medical history, including medications. They will maintain regular communications on all aspects of your treatment, recover and discharge plan. Hospitalists are also available to discuss your medical care with you and your family.
What will happen when I leave the hospital?
Since a Hospitalist only provides care while you are in the hospital, your primary care physician will continue to oversee your outpatient medical needs. Your physician will receive a comprehensive report detailing your treatment and care instructions while you were in the hospital.
